Mulder Design, the renowned Dutch naval architect and design studio, have unveiled superyacht PROJECT OPAL which is currently under construction at the Turkish shipyard Ares Yachts. The 70m (229’7”) hull is well underway, making her an enticing prospect for anyone looking to purchase with a short delivery time.

The high-speed cruising hull is timelessly styled to show off her agility – she will offer a high level of efficiency or the ability to cruise at least 30% faster depending on which engine package is chosen.

“With the exterior styling, what we have aimed to achieve is a look that appeals to a lot of people,” says Bas Mulder, Owner at Mulder Design. “The core attributes are calm and elegant lines that work in harmony with the marine environment rather than screaming for attention,” he continues. “The project’s organic lines follow the flow of waves and clouds, and the yacht looks like she was sculpted by the wind. Further, the considered use of materials and colours with wood, glass and metal elements add to the clean design.”

PROJECT OPAL is a fitting name giving the gemstones association with protection and inspiring cheerfulness, optimism and spontaneity, alongside creativity and originality. The yacht will reflect all these attributes in her onboard experience.

Mulder Design’s trademark features including flared bulwarks on the upper two decks which improve sight lines from the bridge wing stations and create the opportunity for an expanded deck area around the owner’s suite – which is situated forward on the upper deck. The six additional guest suites have been designed to fill the forward section of the main deck while the aft area is dedicated to the salon and dining area, leading out onto a multi-zone aft deck. The upper deck sky lounge can be altered to create a complete owner’s deck – perfect for long voyages.

Elsewhere the top deck houses the wheelhouse and captain’s accommodation with an aft sundeck and steps up to an intimate observation deck complete with spa pool. Guests will love the expansive beach club in the stern with glass doors leading out onto the generous swim platform, which offers seamless access to the water. A transverse garage holds the yacht’s various tenders and toys, and the foredeck doubles as a touch-and-go helipad for the ultimate arrival and departure experience.

The lower deck is primarily for the crew with generous crew cabins, mess and galley plus additional technical areas which will conveniently be away from any guest areas.

“This will be a one-off project, and what makes it extra special is the fast delivery time thanks to our experience as a large shipyard and our sterling reputation,” says Şahi̇nkaya Orhun, Managing Director of Ares Yachts. “It will be built to commercial specification and there is potential for various propulsion options, including Voith Linear Jets if performance in the mid-20-knot range is required, or hybrid and even full electric propulsion packages.”

The GA will be finalised in the next few months, and it is estimated that superyacht PROJECT OPAL will be available for delivery within 32 months – an exceptional timeframe for a custom 70m superyacht.
