Motor yacht PROJECT 817 – Feadship’s ground-breaking new ‘green’ yacht – has been seen for the first time since construction began. The 94m custom yacht recently left the Feadship yard in Kaag, giving onlookers a glimpse of the exterior design from the shipyard’s own studio, De Voogt and Azure.

Environmentally-friendly measures were at the top of the owner’s requirement list, and Feadship have definitely delivered on this. The yacht is installed with an advanced hybrid propulsion system, meaning she can travel at 12 knots on diesel-electric power in sensitive areas. While in this mode, there is a Tier III catalytic converter as well as diesel particle filters to treat all emissions, thereby protecting the pristine locations she will travel to.

Other green initiatives installed include a waste treatment plant and heat recovery systems. With her ceiling to floor windows, extra thought and planning had to go into the air conditioning system, so as to best avoid excessive power-consumption. These measures taken make Project 817 truly a ‘green dream!’
