Iconic motor yacht KOKOMO II back on the water after an extensive refit

Rivergate Marina and Shipyard have been looking after classic motor yacht KOKOMO II for the past 7 months as they worked on an extensive refit which included an extension to the transom,  full exterior repaint and modernisation of the engine room among other upgrades.

Motor yacht KOKOMO II

Originally built in the late 1980s, KOKOMO II has been carefully maintained by her owner, who is known to enjoy a range of water sports with their family, while cruising around Australia, Fiji and the South Pacific. This love of the water was the original catalyst for the idea to upgrade the transom creating an up-to-date platform for launching toys and swimming.

The owner has been delighted, describing the upgrade as “the perfect addition to an already perfect boat”. The elegant vessel is truly unique and retains the charms of a former era of luxury yachts. She’s now been reunited with her owner who will be showing her off around the harbour and waterways of Pittwater and Hawkesbury River in Sydney in the coming weeks.

Boasting a sleek, modern design with a distinctive, sporty profile, the yacht is built to provide a comfortable, sophisticated cruising experience, with ample space for entertaining, relaxation, and recreation. She is a combination of power and futuristic technology and is the result of a great collaboration between the R&D of CRN responsible for her naval architecture, and NUVOLARI LENARD who took care of her distinctive Italian design, in and out.

The yacht is powered by two powerful MTU 20V 4000 M93L diesel engines, which provide an excellent top speed of around 25 knots and a cruising speed of approximately 22,5 knots. With her modest draft of 2.4m (7’10”), she is well-suited for cruising in such destinations as the West Indies. The superyacht is IMO Tier III-certified, assuring significant reductions of up to 70% in harmful emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) in the engine exhaust.

Ground-breaking concept yacht PEGASUS is the world’s first 3D printed yacht.

Jozeph Forakis has presented his new vision in the form of 88m super yacht PEGASUS, constructed using revolutionary 3D printing and designed to be virtually invisible both visually and environmentally.

Concept yacht PEGASUS

The CharterWorld team all agree, she is simply stunning and hope to see her built as envisioned by 2030.

“I was inspired to create a yacht as close to the sea and nature as possible, made of clouds floating above the waterline” says Forakis. “I wanted to honor nature by blending into it, becoming virtually invisible.”

The yacht industry, as with so many other industries, is starting to take its environmental impact more seriously. With this in mind the team developed a construction process using robotic 3D printing to create a strong and lightweight hull and superstructure mesh framework. Constructing a yacht in this way uses less energy, materials, time and space plus produces less waste, compared to conventional methods. Additionally, the glass superstructure incorporates transparent solar panels which work with other systems to generate power for the operating and hotel systems. The result is zero emissions.

The superstructure is draped in multi-tiered wing-like glass panels which reflect the surrounding nature and allows light to penetrate through to give glimpses of the 3D printed framework. Once inside the futuristic interior, sustainability is clearly a priority when you see the ‘Tree of Life’ designed as the centrepiece of the hydroponic garden providing fresh food and ensuring clean air.

The features which lend PEGASUS her sustainable credentials also showcase the minimalist design incorporating natural finishes and living greenery.

The owner will be spoilt with an exclusive deck featuring a master suite and a generous private terrace.

The aquarium-style lap pool and windows which open to become balconies create a stunning pool area which when covered functions as a helipad. If that wasn’t enough there is also a beach club with huge jacuzzi, more fold down balconies and plenty of space for guests at the waters edge.

We will leave you with another quote from the designer and with our growing excitement that we see this design become reality one day.

PEGASUS is a bold but achievable vision for the near future of the superyacht industry, where man and machine live in harmony with nature rather than competing or compromising it.”
