Introducing largest true sportfish superyacht PROJECT 406 by Royal Huisman
Vripack Yacht Design and Royal Huisman have revealed the appearance of the brand new luxury yacht PROJECT 406, which will be the world’s largest luxury sportfish once completed.
At 52m/171ft, M/Y PROJECT 406 is significantly larger than most luxury sportfishing vessels on the market, which average around 30m/98ft in recent years, while some of the largest reach 40m/131ft. As such, there are significant design and engineering challenges inherent in the project – challenges that both collaborators are keen to take on.
The interior and exterior styling as well as the naval architecture will all be handled by Vripack Yacht Design in close collaboration with the Dutch shipyard. The Owner is a passionate sportfisher who has previously owned luxury yachts, and Aqua Marine will represent the Owner’s team, which consists of Bush & Noble and Hampshire Marine, to create a truly exceptional build.
The unveiled concept images show spacious outdoor living areas spanning six decks, of which there are at least three alfresco lounges aft, a foredeck sunbathing and seating area to relax with drinks and admire the views, and a spacious lower deck beach club perfect for days spent sportfishing, placing all gear required within easy reach. Constructed from Alustar® aluminium, the hull and superstructure provide excellent strength and stability for navigating the world’s cruising grounds to the best fishing spots.
The refined luxury yachting lifestyle is well represented within, where a sky lounge offers exceptional views of the location from its elevated position and the ambience of a ’boutique hotel penthouse’ for entertaining and unwinding in a climate-controlled environment.
More details are expected as the project progresses.
Southern Wind launches fourth SW105 hull, luxury yacht Taniwha
The fourth hull of the popular SW105 model, luxury sailing yacht TANIWHA, was christened and launched in front of her new Owners at the Southern Wind shipyard in South Africa on the 18th of April.
The name ‘Taniwha’ comes from Māori mythology from New Zealand and relates to beings that were often revered as guardians of the caves, pools, rivers and seas that they called home.
Built for passionate Owners who provided input throughout the design and construction process, S/Y TANIWHA has a GT (Gran Turismo) deck configuration from Nauta Design, which also produced the interior and exterior styling. There is a reduced coachroof and broader cockpit in comparison to the previous SW105 DS and RS models, and the helm positions have been moved close to the gunwales for improved views. As a result, there is now space for a sunbathing area below the manoeuvring cockpit as well as a garage to store a 4.5m/14.8ft tender.
The naval architecture comes from Farr Yacht Design and includes a fully-carbon hull with Nomex and pre-preg used in the foredeck and cockpit. The mast and boom are made in high modulus carbon, and together with EC6 standing rigging support a generous sail plan. S/Y TANIWHA also has a fixed single rudder, an extended bowsprit of 3.12m/10ft and a lifting keel that reduces from 5.9m/19ft to 3.8m/12.5ft.
Massimo Gino from Nauta Design describes the appearance as “an innovative and clean look that is driven by the methods of composite construction and by racing yacht styling”, resulting in what is expected to be a desirable new style for the future Owners of the SW105 model. As with the classic Gran Turismo cars which were designed for enjoyment travelling across the long-distance at speed, S/Y TANIWHA is a bluewater cruiser that will be able to cross vast distances in excellent time, while providing the utmost comfort onboard.
The interior layout provides a spacious salon, and forward is a studio convertible to a double en-suite cabin and day head. The Owner’s cabin is father forward, and behind the salon is the VIP stateroom and twin cabin, both of which have their own en-suite bathroom. The aft area is reserved for the crew working area and cabins, which sleep five.
S/Y TANIWHA will now undergo sea trials before heading off on her maiden voyage.
Heesen superyacht Moskito delivered and ready for summer luxury yacht charters
The 55m/180.5ft luxury yacht MOSKITO, previously known as PROJECT POLLUX during construction, has been delivered to her Owner by the Heesen shipyard and will be available for Western Mediterranean charters this summer season.
She is the second yacht from the shipyard to be delivered in 2021 and has a modern, muscular appearance created by Omega Architects. The ‘shark tooth’ design of the superstructure overhangs produces a signature appearance, and dark vertical windows contrast against the while hull and superstructure to dramatic effect.
Bannenberg & Rowell had ample interior volume to work with, coming in at 760 GT, and the understated elegance is ideal for celebrating in style or relaxing together with family and friends: The main salon has a contrast of dark eucalyptus and pale sycamore joinery and chevron parquet flooring that makes the bar even more eye-catching. Floor-to-ceiling windows and open bulwarks grant guests magnificent views of the environment whilst relaxing within the climate-controlled interior.
The accommodation, meanwhile, provides up to 12 guests with six en-suite cabins to act as a private retreat: 1 Master suite, 2 VIP staterooms, 1 double cabin and 2 twin cabins that can convert to doubles.
Outside, there is a sundeck Jacuzzi and plenty of sunbathing options, while guests who want to chat and admire the view can do so in complete comfort while the Captain and crew of 12 see to every detail. A beach club in the lower deck stern is a wonderful place to greet visitors and welcome them on board or watch the rest of the group playing on the water toys from this Approved RYA Water Sports Centre.
The MTU 8V 4000 M63 engines are IMO Tier III-compliant, and in conjunction with the Fast Displacement Hull Form from Van Oossanen allow for economical cruising with a rate of only 150 litres of fuel consumed per hour at 11 knots.
Following her delivery, M/Y MOSKITO will make her maiden voyage to Malta, visiting 81 waypoints and cruising non-stop over 2,800 nautical miles to truly give her abilities a test run.
M/Y MOSKITO will be cruising in the Western Mediterranean over the summer season before crossing the Atlantic to spend winter in the Caribbean and Bahamas.
