PHI PHANTOM yacht support vessel by Alia Yachts hits water in Turkey
The 36-metre PHI PHANTOM yacht support vessel by Alia Yachts hit the water in Turkey. Designed in house with exterior design by Cor D Rover and naval architecture by Van Oossanen, this ground-breaking support ship was made for ocean-crossing loaded with tenders and toys that her mothership, superyacht PHI by Royal Huisman, is unable to store. She is currently undergoing a sea trial with the delivery scheduled for June.
The fully aluminium yacht has been taken out of her shed at the Turkish shipyard and was driven out of the building shed and lifted onto the water in Antalya thanks to a 200-tonne travel lift.
“The owner of PHI Phantom is really detail-oriented, and he has been very involved with every element of the build,” comments Gökhan Çelik, President of Alia Yachts. “He trusted us to deliver on a demanding brief, but we have certainly matched and, I hope, surpassed his expectations for this unique support vessel. In particular, the aluminium bending and precision welding was a major challenge.”
Her interiors are finished to superyacht crew standards, accommodating up to six crew members, but has been classified to be handled only by three if needed. This allows for extra space on board, with one cabin designed as a guests cabin. The crew mess is very large with a fantastic galley.
With her very efficient Fast Displacement Hull Form by Van Oossanen and two Cat C-32 engines, PHI Phantom has a nautical-mile-range of 4,200 at 12 knots. Her maximum speed is 21 knots.

Luxury sailing yacht Vegas Baby delivered
The Greifswald shipyard YYachts has announced the delivery of the Y8 luxury sailing yacht VEGAS BABY.
The first of four deliveries scheduled for the first half of 2021, S/Y VEGAS BABY is a majestic 24m/78.8ft sloop with construction and exterior styling from Lorenzo Argento, while the team at Design Unlimited gave the interiors a sophisticated modern look comprised of light wooden panelling, dark flooring and grey upholstery.
Some changes have been made to the design since the original Y8 was conceived: The stern shape and the control console have been improved upon, offering better protection in the cockpit as a result. The interiors use a similar layout to sistership MAKAI, however, the crew mess and galley have been modified to meet the Owner’s requirements.
Described by Dirk Zademack, Managing Partner at YYachts, as “light, fast, luxurious and easy to handle”, S/Y VEGAS BABY is sure to capture the attention of onlookers wherever she sails. Her crew is currently taking her on sea trials in the Baltic Sea ahead of the Mediterranean cruising season.
In the meantime, two more Y7 model sailing yachts are expected to launch, as well as a 27m/90ft custom yacht designed by Bill Tripp with interiors from Winch Design.
55m Lurssen motor yacht project 13800 launched
Lurssen shipyard has announced the launch of the 55.5m motor yacht Project 13800 designed by Bannenberg & Rowell, taking inspiration from the 1973 Carinthia VI.
Although she is the smallest yacht built at the Lurssen shipyard since 1995, she will feature an amazing interior with bespoke museum-quality furniture and elegant design. She has been kept under a shroud of secrecy since the announcement of her build and we all look forward to finding out more about her once delivered to her proud owner.
Dickie Bannenberg commented regarding the launch: ”We are excited to see 13800 emerge from her shed. The initial concept was influenced by our studies based on the classic yacht Carinthia VI, designed by Bannenberg Snr, and built by Lürssen in 1973. Every centimetre of interior and exterior space usage has to be presented, discussed and agreed with the owners, and this has led to many inspiring discussions. We really look forward to seeing her completed over the coming months, including a spectacular interior.”
